Responsibilities of the Municipal council

The Municipal Council is the city’s highest decision-making body in matters falling within its remit. The Mayor chairs the Municipal Council.

Its responsibilities are set out in Section 18 of the Innsbruck City Charter.

The Municipal Council has Political Committees. These prepare selected topics for the Municipal Council. They serve as political instruments for forming opinions, and experts are also invited to participate.

In addition, the Municipal council may conduct inquiries to gather information on a specific subject area.

All members of the Municipal Council are subject to the Compliance Guidelines for Members of the Municipal Council of the Provincial Capital of Innsbruck.

The Municipal council may hold an enquiry at the request of at least 14 members of the Municipal council. Experts and persons providing information are heard or their written statements are obtained. Enquiries can only be held on matters within the council's own sphere of influence. This refers to matters that the Municipal council can also decide on. Unless the Municipal council decides otherwise, enquiries are public.
