What is an emergency visa sticker?

You must submit the application to renew your residence permit in person before your current residence permit expires; see ‘Renewal of a residence permit’.

If you submit your application in good time, you will retain all the rights you had under your previous residence permit. If you submit a well-founded application, the fact that you have applied in good time may also be noted in your passport with an (emergency) sticker.

When can I apply for an emergency visa sticker?

You can apply for an emergency visa sticker in special circumstances. This is valid for 3 months. It is issued if you meet certain requirements and need to travel abroad urgently whilst your application is being processed. With the emergency visa sticker, you can travel to all Schengen countries and to Austria without a visa.
