Notification of Completion of Building Works

Once the building works have been completed, you must notify the building authority – in this case Service Unit Building inspection and building physics that the building works have been completed.

How do I submit a notification of completion of building works?

1. Select the appropriate form:
   • Notification of completion of building works – small-scale building projects (e.g. detached house, conservatory, …)
   • Notification of Completion of Building Works – large-scale building projects (e.g. blocks of flats, commercial buildings, etc.)
   • Notification of completion of building works – photovoltaic system
2. Please note the deadline:
   • within two years for a building project subject to notification
   • within four years for a building project requiring planning permission
3. You must submit the notification of completion of works in writing Service Unit Building inspection and building physics .

In certain cases, you must also apply for a certificate of occupancy .

You must complete your building project within four years of the start of construction, otherwise the building permit will lapse. Under certain circumstances, a one-off application may be made for an extension of the deadline for completion of the building works (see Section 35(3) TBO).

Occupation Permit

Some buildings require a certificate of occupancy, also known as a final inspection. Whether you need a certificate of occupancy depends on the type of building. For some buildings, an on-site inspection is also carried out.

In any case, the following require a usage permit:

• Buildings used for public purposes
• Buildings used for business purposes, provided they do not require a business premises licence
• Buildings with more than six residential units (residential complexes)

Acceptance of the heating system

Before heating systems are commissioned for the first time, the acceptance test report must be sent to City Department Building, water, trade and road law in accordance with the Gas, Heating and Air Conditioning Systems Ordinance.

Allocation of an address and house number

At the start of a building project or upon application by members of the public, the Service Unit Surveying and geoinformation - House number assignment department allocates new addresses and house numbers. The department informs the relevant authorities, emergency services, businesses and members of the public and makes the corresponding entries in the registers.
