The Mariahilf painting in Innsbruck Cathedral is one of the best-known depictions of the Virgin Mary in the Alpine region. It was painted by the Renaissance artist Lucas Cranach the Elder (1472–1553). Anyone walking through Innsbruck with a keen eye will spot copies of the painting on numerous building façades.
In the small but exquisite exhibition ‘Oh, Maria hilf’ Service Unit City Archives/City Museum the Service Unit City Archives/City Museum tells the story of this remarkable depiction.
From 3 May, there will also be a unique opportunity to see the original painting by Lucas Cranach. Visit the painting of the Virgin Mary in Badgasse and let its aura move you.
