Innsbruck’s history extends beyond the tourist hotspots around the Golden Roof. In the city’s various neighbourhoods, you can set off on a journey of discovery and hear some unusual stories. This is also the case in Reichenau, where the ‘Bocksiedlung’ settlement was established from the mid-1930s onwards and came to define the neighbourhood.
Although no traces of the settlement remain today, many people still remember the ‘Bockala’ and their tales of life on the outskirts of the city, of exclusion and freedom, solidarity and adventure.
The exhibition ‘Legendary: The Bocksiedlung’ depicts life and everyday existence in the settlement. It was developed in collaboration between the University of Innsbruck’s Department of European Ethnology, led by Heidi Schleich, the Innsbruck City Archives/City Museum and the Parks and Gardens Department.
