Do you think that everything there is to know about Andreas Hofer and the year 1809 has already been said and written? Far from it!
It was only in 2019 that previously unknown correspondence from 1809 was discovered here in the city archives, providing first-hand insights into the relationship between Andreas Hofer, in his capacity as Commander-in-Chief in Tyrol, and the city of Innsbruck. This discovery enriches both the city’s history and our picture of the Sandwirt, who – as the exhibition title suggests – could sometimes lose his temper.
Through a selection of exhibits, including some of the original letters that were discovered, the exhibition shed light on the complex and often conflict-ridden relations between Andreas Hofer and the city fathers of Innsbruck.
