An introduction to the Exl Stage

The Exl Theatre epitomises the Golden Age of Tyrolean folk theatre like no other. The exhibition ‘A Performance by the Exl Theatre’ at the City Archives/City Museum brought the performers centre stage.

The Exl Theatre is a legend. From its base in Innsbruck, this amateur theatre company conquered the whole of Europe. It performed in Vienna and Berlin, in Milan and Brussels. The exhibition explored the history of this extraordinary theatre group, its magnificent performers, its successes – and its darker sides.
