You have a recognized housing need if:
- Your current home is too small: there is less than 15 m² of net living space available for the first person and less than 10m2 for each additional person
- You have a recognized additional housing need (proven urgent medical need, joint custody or visiting arrangements, persons aged 60 and over)
- Your current home is too expensive: if the gross monthly rent to be paid exceeds 33% of the net family income (a one-off discount of 3% is calculated for families)
- Your current home is demonstrably uninhabitable, e.g. due to
- a physical impairment or serious illness/disability (e.g. wheelchair is necessary) or
- due to dilapidation, construction defects (determined by the building police) or substandard (category D, without bathroom/WC)
- You are homeless or about to become homeless if the following applies:
- You lose your home unexpectedly and not of your own making (e.g. loss of official residence due to retirement or termination of employment) or
- You are already homeless (e.g. registered address in a recognized homeless facility) or
- You do not have a main tenancy agreement (e.g. you are still living with your parents)
Net living space = the pure living space without entrance hall, bathroom, WC and kitchen
Gross monthly rent = net rent plus operating and heating costs
