Funding: Honorarium & Residence
What is sponsored?
Each summer semester, an author is a guest in Innsbruck for one month, enriching both Innsbruck's cultural life and the university's diversity.
Thereby three goals are pursued:
- The Faculty of Philological and Cultural Studies contributes to the cultural life of Innsbruck, the capital of the province, in the form of free readings, lectures, etc.
- The students of the university can train their linguistic competence, their ear and their understanding of texts on masters of language.
- The study of literature is enriched by an experiential process that leads from the creation of a text to its publication or translation.
The "Writer in residence" format was launched in 2006 on the initiative of the Institute of Romance Studies at the University of Innsbruck as the first of its kind at an Austrian university.
Who awards the funding?
The Faculty of Philological and Cultural Studies invites the "Writer in residence", provides the honorarium for a teaching assignment and organizes public events (e.g. at the Literaturhaus am Inn, at the Leokino, etc.).
The City of Innsbruck will cover the costs of inviting the author and will assist in organizing the events (e.g. kick-off event in the plenary hall of the City Hall of Innsbruck).
How do I apply?
You cannot apply by yourself. All institutes of the Faculty of Philological and Cultural Studies can submit proposals for future "Writers in Residence".
Who decides on the award?
The decision is made by the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
