Endowment: 10,000 euros
The prize is endowed annually and can also be split by decision of the prize committee, for example into a main prize and a sponsorship prize. There is no obligation to award the prize every year.
What is supported?
Since 2016, the Marianne Barcal Prize has been awarded for outstanding academic achievements in the field of 20th and 21st century history, preferably with a regional and/or gender focus, in the field of history and related disciplines.
Marianne Elisabeth Barcal has bequeathed her entire estate to the municipality of Innsbruck, dedicated to the Innsbruck City Archive/City Museum. As the deceased was an enthusiastic student in the fields of contemporary history and political science, the municipality of Innsbruck has donated a prize from her estate.
