Die Internationalen Auto- und Motorradrennen auf dem Innsbrucker Flughafen
(1958–1977)
Between 1958 and 1977, 18 international car races and 11 national motorbike races were held at Innsbruck Airport. In addition to various touring and sports car classes, racing car classes ranging from Formula Junior to Formula II were also represented. Racing greats of the time and later years took part in the races, including Franz Albert, Toni Fischhaber, Erwin Gassler, Ing. Gert Greil, Hubert Hahne, Hans Hermann, Ernst Krasovic, Niki Lauda, Dr Helmut Marko, Markus Meisinger, Gerhard Mitter, Dieter Quester, Klaus Reisch, Walter Schatz and Jochen Rindt. The latter competed in three classes at the 8th Innsbruck Airfield Race on 10 October 1965, winning each one. Tanja Chraust, who has been closely involved with the development of Innsbruck Airport for many years, offers a fascinating, richly illustrated insight into a chapter of motorsport at Innsbruck Airport spanning some two decades.
