If a person dies outside of the Innsbruck Regional Hospital (Landeskrankenhaus Innsbruck, Univ.-Kliniken), please report the death to us immediately.

During office hours, i.e.

Monday to Thursday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays from 7 a.m. to 12.00 noon,

Outside of our opening hours you are requested to contact the Regional Hazard Warning Centre (Landeswarnzentrale) +43 512 508 2270.

Inspection of the corpse

In every case of death, the corpse must be inspected by a public health officer.

Please note:

  • The inspection can be performed three hours after death at the earliest.


  • You should not make any changes to the body (including changes to the deceased’s clothing).


  • Only when the corpse has been officially inspected, may the undertaker remove it.


  • Even if the body is to be cremated or moved to another region or country, please contact an undertaker


Additional information:

  • Ask the deceased’s doctor to issue a certificate of medical treatment.

  • Should the cause of death be unclear, it may be necessary to perform a post mortem.

  • Under Austrian law, a doctor is not permitted to reveal the cause of death (unless previously released of his/her duty of confidentiality by the deceased).
