SOCIAL AFFAIRS

In the spirit of helping people to help themselves, Innsbruck has a policy of promoting private social services which – often with the help of volunteers – meet the needs of specific groups of persons, in addition to its obligations as a public authority to satisfy the legal entitlements of residents requiring assistance.

Once a case of economic and social hardship has been verified, the Innsbruck municipal authority grants various forms of assistance, e.g. to cover the cost of living or housing or costs arising from illness, with the aim of enabling beneficiaries to return to financial independence.

The local authority also meets residential and nursing home charges where residents do not have the resources to pay them themselves.

Finally, in keeping with the objectives of the Tyrolean Rehabilitation Law, the Innsbruck authority takes various measures to help people with special needs develop and retain their physical, mental, social, professional and economic capabilities in support of (re-)integration in society.
