INNSBRUCK INTERNATIONAL

Innsbruck’s close involvement with Europe is reflected in the city’s history. Emperor Maximilian I held court in Innsbruck, and that gave the city a prominent position in the Europe of those days. In 1964 Innsbruck was awarded the Europe Prize by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in recognition of the city’s outstanding work in support of the idea of European unity. In 2003 Innsbruck became the seat of the Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention and thus an important hub of sustainable development in the Alps.
